Tkinter Text Question

Hello All,

I would like to get the index of the character closest to the pointer in a
Text, something like Canvas.find_clo sest(). I want it to bind to '<Motion>'.
Does anybody know how this might be done?

Thank you,

James

While setting up some unit tests, I came to the conclusion that a Tkinter Text widget can never be empty, but will always (?) contain a \n. Here is a brief example: >>> import Tkinter >>> t = Tkinter.Text() >>> t.get(0.0, Tkinter.END) '\n' >>> t.delete(0.0, Tkinter.END) >>> t.get(0.0, Tkinter.END)

Hi there, after reading TkInter/thread -recipe: http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Cookbook/Python/Recipe/82965 I wondered if it was possible to avoid using threads for the following problem: I have script started from W2K console that normally prints ascii messages to the screen. However, I have command line "debug" -flag that might cause printing

I want to be able to easily create reusable shapes in Tkinter and be able to use them in mid level dialogs. So after some experimenting I've managed to get something to work. The following does pretty much what I need, but I think it can be improved on. So could anyone take a look and let me know what you think? Some of the things I want to add, but aren't exactly sure how at this time: Nested groups Use tags to be able to change sub...

Hello: Below I have included a stripped down version of the GUI I am working on. It contains 2 dialog boxes - one main and one settings. It has the following problems, probably all related, that I am hoping someone knows what I am doing wrong: 1) Pressing the Settings.. Button multiple times, brings up many instances of the Settings Panel. I just want it to bring up one. Is there an easy way to do that?

I'm trying to decide whether I need threads in my Tkinter application or not. My app is a front end to a command-line tool; it feeds commands to the command-line program, then reads its output and displays it in a Tkinter text widget. Some of the commands are long-running and/or return thousands of lines of output. I initially thought I needed to use threading, because the GUI would block when reading the output, even when I configured...

I hate to do this, but I've thoroughly exhausted google search. Yes, it's that pesky root window and I have tried withdraw to no avail. I'm assuming this is because of the methods I'm using. I guess my question is two-fold. 1) How do I get rid of that window? 2) Any comments in general? I am just learning python (and coding with classes), so I'm sure there are things I should pound into my head before I learn bad habits. Here's the...

I actually post a topic relating to my problem here: (http://groups.google.co.uk/group/comp.lang.python/browse_thread/ thread/a073d532c4481bfe?hl=en# ) But I thought it could be useful to place an example of my problem here aswell. This a small piece of testcode that creates a TableList. When the cell is selected, a ComboBox Widget is used temporarily during the editing phase. It is during this ( EditStartCmd call) that I wish to...

The grid manager is for equally distributing widgets both horizontally and vertically. And I'm not sure that you can realize that window look with Tkinter. You could get close by horizontally packing each widget row in a frame and then vertically packing the frames in the window. But the look...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
