Try rebasing your Cygwin installation. See the README:

/usr/share/doc/Cygwin/python-2.4.README

for more information. Does it solve your problem?

I want to write some kind of install script for my python app that will add c:\cygwin\usr\bin to the system path. I don't want to walk around to 50 PC's and twiddle through the GUI to: My Computer --> Control Panel --> System --> Advanced --> Environment How can a python, or even a .bat script modify the system PATH? It doesn't appear to be in the registry.

vbscript and/or javascript is most likely what I want to use! >From a SGI and a Linux box with a known PID, how do I determine if that process is running on a Windows computer? Please explain to me how to do this with vbscript and/or with javascript! Which language is better? Speed is a very important limitation, so which language is faster in batch processing? On unix, I would use something such as "ps -p<PID>" to determine the...

this has me puzzled; I've created a small test app to show the problem I'm having. I want to use subprocess to execute system commands from inside a Tkinter app running under Cygwin. When I open a python interpreter and run my subprocess command, all is well. But when I run the same command from inside a Tkinter app, I'm getting errors.

I have a Tkinter app running on cygwin. It includes a Test menu item that does nothing more than fetch a directory listing and display it in a Toplevel window (I'd use a tkMessageBox showinfo widget, but for some reason the text is invisible on cygwin). After I close the Toplevel widget, all of the menus in my app behave as though they have no contents to them, i..e I can press on the File menu button, and see it depress, but the Exit...

i ran onto this weirdness today: seems like close() on popen-ed (pseudo)file fails miserably with exception instead of returning exit code, when said exit code is -1. here is the simplest example (under Windows): >>> print popen('exit 1').close() 1 >>> print popen('exit -1').close() Traceback (most recent call last):

I'm running Python 2.5 under Windows. If I fire up IDLE and enter: it works like a champ, opening the page in Firefox. Same thing goes from a Windows cmd shell: it works as advertised. But if I open a cygwin bash shell and try the same thing from a python prompt, I get: Traceback (most recent call last):

Hi all, I have a python gui app that launches multiple applications using subprocess.Popen class and prints their output in the gui (using PIPEs, threads and wxPython). Everything works great but the problem is that some applications should run in the background (ie they don't close when the gui closes) so next time when you start the gui it will not have a handle on those processes that are still running and therefore won't be able to...

Hi. I wondered if anyone knew the rationale behind the naming of the Popen class in the subprocess module. Popen sounds like the a suitable name for a function that created a subprocess, but the object itself is a subprocess, not a "popen". It seems that it would be more accurate to just name the class Subprocess, can anyone explain why this is not the case? Thank you.

Hello, I'm launching a script as follows: <code> p = subprocess.Popen() p.wait() </code> If p.py writes to sys.stdout, then it is shown on the console.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
