distutils and mingw32

I'm trying to get distutils in 2.4 happy running mingw32. I've chased
a few things down, but now I'm getting:

C:\Documents and Settings\daniel s\Desktop\Py\bl ock>\python24\p ython
setup.py bui
ld_ext -cmingw32
running build_ext
building '_block' extension
C:\MinGW\bin\gc c.exe -mno-cygwin -mdll -O -Wall -IC:\python24\in clude \
-IC:\python24\PC -c _blockmodule.c \
-o build\temp.win3 2-2.4\Release\_bl ockmodule.o
writing build\temp.win3 2-2.4\Release\_bl ock.def
C:\MinGW\bin\gc c.exe -mno-cygwin -shared \
-s build\temp.win3 2-2.4\Release\_bl ockmodule.o \
build\temp.win3 2-2.4\Release\_bl ock.def \
-LC:\python24\li bs -LC:\python24\PC Build -lpython24 -lmsvcr71 \
-o build\lib.win32-2.4\_block.pyd

build\temp.win3 2-2.4\Release\_bl ockmodule.o(.te xt+0x41):_block module.c:
undefined reference to `_imp__PyExc_Ty peError'
build\temp.win3 2-2.4\Release\_bl ockmodule.o(.te xt+0x9d):_block module.c:
undefined reference to `_imp__PyExc_Ty peError'

.... (and so on for lots of these type constants).

I presume I am doing something wrong here, but I'm not used to what
underlying stuff is happening (why is everythin _imp__PyExc_Typ eError?)
Is this a missing file to link or what?

a confused and bemused

my guess is that the import library (libpython24.a) is missing or not
correct. did you create one with pexports?

you know this one?

Thanks. I'll try that out tonight.

Hello Python Community. I bring greetings from the Haskell community (http://www.haskell.org) ;) There has been a lot of discussion of late about creating a grand-unified build & distribution system for "3rd party" Haskell libraries (those not distributed with the compilers). Python's Distutils has come up a few times. The Haskell Library Infrastructure Project's web page is just a wiki page which can be found here:...

In Python 2.2, I compiled some C++ code on Windows (MinGW compiler) to create an extension using distutils and the following setup.py file: from distutils.core import setup, Extension setup (name = "_pysimple", version = "1.0", maintainer = "AG", maintainer_email = "xxx@xx.co.uk", description = "Sample Python C++ DLL", ext_modules = ,

Some time ago, I got the idea that I wanted to build image resources from vector graphic originals, instead of marshalling hundreds of tiny little icon images by hand. I wrote "BuildImage" to do this for me, and so far, it works very well, so I'm trying to make it easier to use and available to more developers. There is a brief (and somewhat dated) tutorial explaining what BuildImage itself does at:

I'm trying to build PyBison on Mac OS X, and I'm running into some problems with the distutils. Just for starters: PyBison requires Pyrex. This is not a problem, and Pyrex seems to work without problems, at least the primes sample module shows a nice 25 to 30 fold speed increase over the pure python version. I used the distutils to create the module from the primes.pyx sample, following the setup.py from the PyBison distrubution:

Hello all. We don't have admin privs on our Windows boxes, but I'd like to be able to install a package built using distutils. I was able to install Python without admin, but when I tried to run the installer for this package I'm trying to install, I get a message saying that I need admin privs. Is there a way around this? Why can't it just put things in C:\Python23\Lib\site-packages like a good little installer?

Hi all, I suspect that I'm doing something stupid, I would like some other opinions though. I'm getting started with ctypes and am trying to use distutils to help build my module. At the moment I simply want distutils to build a shared c library (not a python extension!). Under linux, the following works, under windows xp id doesn't (which I guess is obvious, but the linux success lead me on). I have two files at the moment...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
