COM, IDL, and enum

How do I access the values of the enum "ERLockStat us" specified in the
(abreviated IDL) file below?

This code works fine and lets me call the methods of the user
import win32com.client
ui = win32com.client .Dispatch('ERFi le.User')
Here is the (abreviated) IDL file:
// This file will be processed by the MIDL tool to
// produce the type library (ERFile.tlb) and marshalling code.

import "oaidl.idl" ;
import "ocidl.idl" ;

helpstring("ERF ile 1.0 Type Library")
library ERFile
importlib("stdo le32.tlb");
importlib("stdo le2.tlb");

helpstring("IER ecord Interface"),
pointer_default (unique),
interface IUser : IDispatch { code deleted here };
[helpstring("ER Lock Status")]
enum ERLockStatus {
ls_unlocked, ls_by_caller, ls_by_another, ls_not_locked

more code deleted here

Thanks much in advance for your help.

You must ensure that makepy has been run for your object - this
generally just means calling gencache.Ensure Dispatch() to create your
object. Once the makepy'd file for the IDL has been loaded, the
constants will be available as "win32com.clien t.constants.con stant_name"

If a class inherits from another class, say Form inherits from control, then I can assign the Form to a variable of type Control without needing an explicit conversion, eg Form1 f = new Form1(); Control c = f; An enum value inherits from int but it doesn't get implicitly converted: HorizontalAlignment h = HorizontalAlignment.Center;

Hi, I downloaded and tried the ENUM++ code from CUJ http://www.cuj.com/documents/s=8470/cujboost0306besser/ but can't even get it to compile (see following). I have also downloaded and installed the boost library. This is using gcc under FC3.

So I was needing some extra power from my enums and implemented the typesafe enum pattern. And it got me to thinking... why should I EVER use standard enums? There's now a nice little code snippet that I wrote today that gives me an instant implementation of the pattern. I could easily just always use such an implementation instead of a...
