How do you retrive data, do you use database client (pgadmin3, psql ?) or some dedicated application you wrote in some language?

I retrive data by select statement on a column of text data-type and use the where clouse to retrive one field which is
contain a big data (about 2.9 mega bytes).
the queryis like:
select message from my_table where id = 7;

I use Pgadmin3.

thanks.
