Postgres Service start fails

Hi

I am using postgressql8.2.4 on Red hat linux 4.0 . After restarting the system postgres service failed to start. Also after reinstalling the postgres init db is successful but starting service fails . Please help.

Please tell me where is the log located. Since the pg_log folder inside the \pgsql\data is empty. its urgent .

Maybe is something in /var/log/syslog or /var/log/messages.
Look into posgresql.conf file, there is a section called ERROR REPORTING AND LOGGING, there shoud be an option file_redirect (or something like that), is it set to on? I think would be better if you read the manual at postgres.org.
