What is the output statement in PostgreSQL

Hi all

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. declare
  2. cnt integer;
  3. begin
  4. cnt=5;
  5. dbms_output.put_line(cnt);
  6. end;
  7.
This is my sample procedure, no return type.
when i execute this procedure it shows that
"Syntax error at or near 'dbms_output'"

can any one help me in this problem by giving the correct syntax for the
output statement.

In a function you can use RAISE NOTICE for tracing,
see Errors and Messages and Control structures for details.
