BackUp and Restore PostGreSQL8.1

Can someone tell me what are the perfect way to backup a database and how to restore it??

Backup/Restore can be done fairly easy, please read these docs:

Backup and Restore
pg_dump
pg_dumpall

If you have pgAdmin I think (I did not look at it for a while) you may be able to run backup/restore from there.

Finally some people just do a file backup; stop the server and copy the whole database directory. This crude approach also works.
