PostgreSQL - JDBC2 lose connectivity after a while

P: 1

I have an application written in Java that connects to PostgreSQL 8.1 through JDBC 2. It keeps firing queries to the DB every 2 minutes. After running for a while (by the time it sends some 30k-50k queries) to DB, it stops fetching data from the database. It does not throw any exception reporting the Connection has broken or anything else. Hence I assume the connection between the application and database is live.

Restarting the PostgreSQL database solves the problem. Can some one explain why is this happening and what I can do to stop it from occuring since restating the DB is not a good idea for application running in production environment.

Thanks in advance!
