Adding pgAdminIII Server - Passwords?

I'm really confused.

I had a server to my localhost Win2k machine (8.0.0-rc5.2) in
pgAdminIII earlier this evening. I monkeyed with the password option
and wound up making this existing server unconnectable, so I deleted
the server.

Now I'm trying to add a new server again to my localhost Win2k
machine. I had two postgres users on this machine, yates and postgres.
I cannot get a new server added no matter what combination of usernames,
need password options, and passwords (trying combinations of blank,
and either of the two possible other passwords I've used). I get

pgAdminIII: An error has occurred: Error connecting to the
server: FATAL: password authentication failed for
user "yates"

What can I do to re-establish a connection to this server?
