can you run a psql command line query?

P: n/a

After reading the manual, it looks like you can run a query on a single
command line. But I cant get it to work...

Does this look right to anyone?
psql -d hostname -c "update table set field='value'" -U username -W

password

maybe I dont have the syntax correct for parsing the string?

TIA,
tj
