benchmarks?

Hi all,
I'm new to pg, considering it for a business. A post on Compuserve from 2
years ago said that a MySQL based web site could handle hundreds of
hits/day but a pg based site could handle thousands. Is that true with the
updates that MySQL has had? Are there any reliable benchmarks?
TIA,
Wayne
