Hello
Can somebody point me to a good document on PostgreSQL to Oracle migration steps. I have checked various sites including postgresql.org but I need to have a basic head start to evaluate the complexity involved.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Beside its an opensource and supported by community, what's the fundamental differences between PostgreSQL and those high-price commercial database (and some are bloated such as Oracle) from software giant such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and Sybase? Is PostgreSQL reliable enough to be used for high-end commercial application? Thanks

I've been scouring the PostgreSQL web site and have found several references to a Database Migration Wizard. I was unable, however, to find any details. Would someone be kind enough to explain what and where it is? I need to migrate an Oracle db to PostgreSQL.

I write this to tell you why we won't use postgresql even though we wish we could at a large company. Don't get me wrong I love postgresql in many ways and for many reasons , but fact is fact. If you need more detail I can be glad to prove all my points. Our goal is to make logical systems. We don't want php, perl, or c++ making all the procedure calls and having the host language to be checking for errors and handleing all the...

Hi, I'm a developer for a software application vendor, and our application makes use of a customer-maintained Oracle 8i/9i database. We've had a customer request to support DB2 database, and I'm looking into the feasibility of migration. Our application runs on NT Server and, the DB2 database would be in some cases on a separate AIX machine, in other cases on an AS/400. There are two problems we are running into, both relating to our...

Hi list, My boss would like to convert from MySQL to PostgreSQL, but there are a few things that hold us back. We'd like to have the databases in several physical servers, with referential integrity between the tables. Reading from Oracle articles, their referential integrity can be done using their dblink and triggers. What I'd like to ask is whether contrib/dblink is stable? Seeing dblink in a contrib directory does bring a doubt...

Hello All One of our clients is at very initial stage of migration from SQL 2000 to PostgreSQL. Itís not been finalized and some research is going on. Since I am new to PostgreSQL, I don't have any knowledge about it. Can any one focus on migration difficulties from SQL Server 2000 to PostgreSQL? I know some of it can be Case Sensitivity, Syntactical differences between SQL and PostgreSQL, Security etc. Thanks Shrikant

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
