ODBC creating nulls?

Subject: ODBC creating nulls?
Date: Friday, July 09, 2004 10:43 AM

Hi,

Below is my VB6 code that writes data from an Access 2000 table to a PG
table.

The " & "" " on the right of each line should prevent nulls from being
passed to PG.
For some reason I still get nulls in any field without data. Even the
secondary part number which is set to "".

I had a system crash and had to reload a lot os stuff including the PG ODBC
driver.

Is there some setting in the DSN that I need to change?

DataPG.Recordse t.AddNew
DataPG.Recordse t("pricebookid" ) = MaxID & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("partnumber ") = Apb("partnumber ") & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("secondarypar tnumber") = ""
DataPG.Recordse t("grouping") = ""
DataPG.Recordse t("Description" ) = Apb("Descriptio n") & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("suppliercode ") = Apb("supplierco de") & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("categorycode ") = Apb("categoryco de") & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("orderunit" ) = Apb("orderunit" ) & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("pkgunitquant ity") = Apb("pkgunitqua ntity") & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("orderqty") = Apb("orderqty") & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("movementcode ") = Apb("movementco de") & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("supersededto ") = Apb("superseded to") & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("cost") = Apb("cost") & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("retail") = Apb("retail") & ""
DataPG.Recordse t("dtstamp") = "6/8/2004"
DataPG.Recordse t("upccode") = ""
MaxID = MaxID + 1
DataPG.Recordse t.Update

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

This is a change of behaviour between Access 2000 SP3 and Access 2002 SP3. I have Progress table that is linked via ODBC into Access using OpenLink Lite for Progress 9.0b. For over a year, using Access 2000 under Win98, I have been running a Make Table or Append query against this ODBC table and producing an extracted Access table. Any fields that are NULL on the source ODBC table show as NULL on the output table. The query also has an...

I have a access form that is connected to linked sql table via odbc. I have some fields that I dont want to allow nulls when data is entered via the form. I can set the null checking on the SQL server database but the ODBC error tha tis returned is not very polite to the user since it mentions the sql field not the nice label. Is there a way for me to modify this error or put the check in access?

I have an Access database and a table. One of the columns was a memo field. If I execute a 'select * from table', all the rows would be retrieved but the columns after the memo column had null data. If I moved the memo field to the end and executed the same SQL the data was retrieved propery. Also if I specified the column name by itself (E.g. select phone from table' ), the data was retrieved.

hello, I've got a big problem ad i'm not able to resolve it. We have a server running oracle 10g version 10.1.0. We usually use access as front end and connect database tables for data extraction. We have been using oracle client 10.1.0.2 with it's odbc for a while without problem. The problem arose when we decided to reconnect all the tables and save password. Some query became suddenly very slow. Then I've discovered that the tables...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
