ComPort to Web Page. With PHP?

P: 1
I have a Windows Apache server with PHP5 etc... On this server I have a serial port that connects to a RS485 network with a number of micros gathering real world data.
I want to display this on a web page using SVG, graphics.
I was thinking that PHP would be a part of this solution. I can use MODE, Exec to collect some data. Eg send request, gather a response, process and draw SVG.
Is there a way of getting the Sample comsport PHP to run in back ground.
PHP isn't multi threaded in a web environment.
Tried using DOT_NET with c# MSIL dll. With various results.
I tried to build a PHP extension, but my build enviroment needs some configuring of the PHP source and tools, so put that on pause for moment.

What would be the best approach for this problem. Can I do it all in PHP or will I need to make an extension or c# interface from PHP.

All of it is possible using PHP. Make sure you have any PHP module that you need. One would be GD library. PHP is easy to compile on Linux and GD is so popular I'm it's just a .dll include for a Windows server.

Good luck,
