passing the result of a click on hyperlink to another page in php

6
I have a mysql table result displayed in 3 columns viz., "name", "amount" and "days" in a page, mainly a summary page. The contents of the first column "name" is displayed as a hyperlink which when clicked will show the details for that particular person. Though this link works fine, the result obtained is for all the persons instead of it being filtered to show details of only a single person. Now is there a way to pass on the result of the hyperlink so that it can be used as a variable to filter data to be shown on the next page?

My code:
used for the hyperlink
<td align=left><font color=blue><b><a href='detail.php?$bnam'>$bnam</a></b><br></td>

the query used in "Detail.php"
$qry = "select a.nam, a.loan, a.loandt, a.period, a.duedt, b.instdt, b.instamt,
b.txndt, b.cramt, b.defaamt from BORW_MAST as a left join DEFA
as b on a.nam = b.nam where b.defaamt <> 0 and a.status = 'LIVE'
order by nam,txndt ";

I would like to give a filter condition in the $qry with the result obtained by clicking on the hyperlink above. How to go about that? Please help. Thanks in advance.
