Hii,
I am working on a auto complete functionality and the data for it is very huge say 5000 records . So which is the better option for it, 1. storing data in database or storing it on a file on filesystem. Is there any means to measure the time taken to execute .

i did not get u!!!!

I have a autocomplete function to be done!!! there are 2 ways
1. storing data in database
2. as arrays in a text file

the number of records say the names are large and it tends to grow !!say a total of 5000 records!!

So which is better, storing in a file/ DB!!!???

@pradeepjain
He clearly said 'DB'.

Storing it in a database would be much easier, cleaner and more efficient; you can index your database for faster results, run complex queries, etc.

DB.

Working with Databases is always recommended over file system as far as performance is concerned and as long as your client requirements permit. Because it may happen that the application you are working on is a desktop application and the client does not want to mess around with the database thing.
However, if you want to store the data in files only, use XML files instead of plain text files.
