correlation help!

I am trying to find the correlation(similarities) between records of a database using PHP. I would like to do this using arrays. Any suggestions on how this could be implemented as I have not found any ressouces on the topic.

could you explain what you mean with correlation (maybe an example could help)? is it in a statistical sense?

I am actually trying to develop a web application that will recommend products to a user depending on his preferences.

The user will answer simple questions on a form and after submitting the form the matching product will be returned.

But to do so i need to compare the user input to the products by finding their similarities; the more similar they are the better the match.

This is what i cannnot figure out by now; i have made the form and connected it to my MySQL database and i can run simple queries on it.

you need to make a model how to select a product by the questions used. this could be tags associated to the products (which you select by the questions). you might even have to do a research on the topic.

since the core problem is rather shop related, I can't offer you much help in figuring out how. the only source I could use is google.
