Sports Stats Website

P: 2
I am working on a website which displays sports data. This site will use XML data(SportsML to be precise) provided by a third party(sports stats data vendor). Do I need to store this data in my database or shall I display it straight from vendors database?
Also if anybody has already worked on such assignments, please let me know how to deal with this sort of data(SportsML), i mean parsing and all...
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Alot....

Hi.

If the XML provided by your 3'rd party database is valid XML, PHP will have no problem handling it. There are a number of XML manipulation extension, take your pick, but I recommend checking out SimpleXML first.

Whether or not you should store this in your database or display it directly depends on a few things.
Is this data updated frequently?
If not, then fetching new data at regular intervals and storing it in your own database may be a more reliable method. Relying on data from a 3'rd party might be problematic, as you would have to rely on their servers to provide a critical part of your own application.

But, then again, simply fetching the data from them would probably be a lot simpler.
