On my site I have a problem as the hosting company has set the default time
out to 15 mins and some of the users are busy mums and so have to leave the
computer for a while to deal with the kids etc. So when they return to the
computer to carry on working on the site it tells them they are logged out
I have been told I can put a php.ini file in the directory to over ride this
setting but I dont know what values I need to put in I would like to set
the time out to 5hours
I have been told its easy to do but Im very new to PHP and so have no idea
what to put
Thanks

It's not necessarily as easy as it sounds.
You can set session.cookie_lifetime to a longer value (0 means until the
browser is closed). However, the sessions can still be cleaned up if
the server's session.gc_maxlifetime is set to a shorter value and your
session data is in the same location as other domains (typical). In
this case you have to also set session.save_path to store the data in a
directory your web server has write access to but is outside of the root
path of the document. These can be done in a php.ini file in your
directory, but most people place them in the .htaccess. See the PHP doc
for more information on how to do it.
But it's probably easier to just change hosting companies to one which
will allow a longer session timeout.
