How to use custom properties, in php.ini?

What is the best mechanism for using custom application properties? Do
these go into the php.ini file or somewhere else? And what functions
are available to handle such properties?

the functions to handle php.ini properties are
# ini_alter — Alias of ini_set
# ini_get_all — Gets all configuration options
# ini_get — Gets the value of a configuration option
# ini_restore — Restores the value of a configuration option
# ini_set — Sets the value of a configuration option

more info is available here

i think that is not a good practice to add custom properties to the
php.ini (and i don't know if it's possile)

what do you need to do? I mean, would you like to modify php.ini
properties only for your application?
or you need to store your OWN properties in a file?

What "custom application properties" are you talking about? Could you
please explain better? Maybe an example?

An example of a custom property is a google account code for
eCommerce, which is different on our staging/testing system vs the
production site. We'd like to keep all such site-specific values
neatly in one file. If it is not the php.ini file, what file should it
be?

I put this type of information in an include file outside of the
document root of the web server. Then just include it where necessary.

I agree, usually I do the same thing
I think that It's important to keep these files with keys or passwords
outside of the document root of the web server

You can use your own ini file(s).
