Suse?

Okay, I've worked with RedHat and Fedora, but does anybody know if suse
personal or suse pro comes with php/mysql? Or would I have to go with
suse enterprise server to get them?

Yes, SuSE in all its flavors comes with MySQL, ready to run. When you
use YaST to install software, search for mysql and you will see the
relevant stuff you should install.

You can also download the binaries in RPM format from from www.mysql.com for
whatever Linux you use. It is a good idea to install the development libs
also if you plan on using MySQL with Perl or PHP or other languages where
the libs may be necessary.

As kf****@gmail.com wrote you can also download and compile it, however,
this is something I'd recommend only if you have some understanding of
where things should go, or can't get the RPM's to install, as it takes a
bit of understanding to get things in the right places, etc.

Yes Suse Pro does. v9.1 only comes with Apache2 though, so make sure you
install it with prefork memory manager.

You should read this article before you start...

http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/..._linux_nw.html

I have 9.1 pro and it works great. My only complaint is that one of my
hosts is still running 3.x and I have some issues with 4.x code.

Suse personal does not come with mysql/php but all of the files are on
ftp for anyone to download. If you get personal, which I've installed
in a handfull of places, you will have to set yast to use
ftp.suse.com. Once you do that you will be able to search in yast and
install it from there. You will have to do the same with apache. It's
really easy, but the httpd.conf file for apache has an error that you
have to fix (comment out one line).

I used redhat 7 through 9 and then I switched to suse instead of
fedora. It's better in some ways (it's installer will resize ntfs,
samba worked out of the box)

Post again or email me if you have any problems getting it to work.

SuSE 9.0 also came with Apache 2, PHP 4.3.3 and Mysql (dunno exact version,
box is down) preinstalled. Apache runs in prefork by default on this distro.

MySQL 4.0.15, I don't know if upgrades changed the minor number though -
probably not.
