Anything like JNI for PHP?


In java you can call native programs. I'd like to be able to do that
from php. Is that possible?

A probably incomplete list would be: exec(), system(), shell_exec(),
backticks, popen(), proc_open(), passthru(), compiled extensions, all of which
are in the manual.
