Business focusing on PHP

I am thinking to start a business focusing on PHP, i.e.: to develop
modules for popular open source php applications, like drupal,
wordpress, joomla, etc.

Any suggestion on how to make it a sustainable and profitable
business?

Thank you.

I'd say focus on solutions, not tools. You're doing yourself no favors
doing only PHP.

An acquaintance of mine runs a somewhat similar business, but
his concept, in my opinion, is much better than yours: he is
in enterprise content management business, so his company
delivers turnkey content management solutions based on open-
source products with custom extensions. Essentially, he
competes with SharePoint, which costs a five-digit sum in U.S.
dollars, and sells to medium-to-large companies, which have
serious IT budgets and IT managers eager to outsource stuff
that normally has lower priority compared to e-mail and ERP.
You, on the other hand, would compete with free products and
sell to other Web developers, so you would have neither
pricing power not market size...

Cheers,
NC
