PHP DIY Website database multi user/clients

2
I feel dumb because i think i just posted this in the wrong area.

I couldnt find anything about this when i searched around and i hope it is ok to ask here. I am looking to set up a multi user/client DIY website/store much like diyestores.com.

the problem im running into is trying to figure out how to do it. im familiar with forums and blogs, as ive got those implimented already. i guess im lost at where to start. i know what to do when i get the tools...its just a matter of finding the right tools to get this in place. i assume that i will need a php database for this, correct? ive looked at a lot of softwares such as coffeecup but not sure how to tie that in with my php database and how users will be directed to it to start building their site instead of being directed to my site/their host, admin area.

i dont mean to sound like an idiot and i do appreciate your time and any suggestions/advice you can give. Very much appreciated.

Its not about using "tools", but programming language :)

and since we're PHP geeks, all we do is recommend PHP to you. But you'll need a programmer to pull this off (not to mention a great GUI guy or gal also)

From what i understood you like to create a setup like diyestores.com? where customers sign up and set up their own websites, but only on YOUR site.

To be frank diyestores.com is not a site I'll trust my website with, even less my credit card! The site looks like it still in the 1990's.
