PHP Script Installation with XML

Okay this is a long shot but its all I have, I am useless with XML, I have no idea of what it is able to do and how it works

This is what I want to do:

I have a script that for it to work they have to edit a file after installation (its for a forum script).. So I read about and looked at other installers for various other scripts and they all have at some stage integrated the XML.. So is it possible for me to create the installer and have an XML section that reads the file it needs to edit, finds a define value and adds beneath/above it?

If that is possible it would be of a massive help! All examples I have got have been coded to suite the application which is in another "class" completely.. but the component I want to design this for uses basic PHP

Will this be possible? Ideas/suggestions thanks

Thanks,
Kirk

To do something like this, do you create another class, I was looking at examples from board softwares -> IPB, SMF.. they all use another file to define all the functions it could do

I guess this might not be as easy as I once thought

Thanks,

see here

I mustn't of made myself clear

I want to create an installer that will add mysql tables (which it has done) and use XML to find content of a file and edit it (or add above/below) so that the file edits needed to get the component to work are done automatically

Thanks,
Kirk
