MySQL Password change

Hi,
sorry for asking such a dump question, I have win98 with PHPtriad 2.2.
while trying many other mysql GUIs i happen to change the MySQL
password now my phpmyadmin is not working as it is asking for the old
user pass combination.
I tried several times but cant set it to ( user : root with no
password )
Can anybody tell me where exactly is the username and password stored
and i can edit it directly like we change things in php.ini.

Regards

In the mysql manual you can find a toppic about changing the root password.
