configuring IIS for PHP5

can anybody tell me how to configure IIS on windows xp pro to run
php5, i have read the php maual and i have books, but trying to do it
from zip and not installer is very difficult i just cant get it to
work, i keep getting error 404- page not found.

would appreciate a really easy to follow guide or steps as i want to
follow the wrox book for beggining php- but cant get past the setup.

404 is not a PHP problem. It says the page you requested didn't exist.

First you need to get it to work with static html pages. Then try to
get PHP to work. Try an IIS newsgroup for starters.
