Hello, I'm a php/mysql beginner...
Is there any way of making the mysql command line client full-screen?
Sometimes it's easier to use the client than go thru php, but
since it's only about 80 characters wide that limits its usefulness.

I did a search for MySQL newsgroups but there are none available on my
ISP's newsgroup server, hence my request for assistance here.
I think Zach was right; the question was short and near enough
on-topic to be considered relevant, and apparently there was a concise
answer.
Unfortunately, several other people felt it was necessary to wag their
fingers. Please stop for a moment to consider whether such knee-jerk
responses are always appropriate.

I did a search for MySQL newsgroups but there are none available on my

I think Zach was right; the question was short and near enough

I'm sorry your ISP doesn't support comp.database.mysql or other mysql
newsgroups. But you can still access them through Google Groups.
And where in this newsgroup's name do you see "MYSQL"? Or where in your
inquiry did you even reference "PHP"?
It's not a knee-jerk reaction. Rather, it's trying to keep this
newsgroup to PHP questions like it is intended.
In this and a lot of other newsgroups, if you ask an off-topic question
and you will be told about it.
And it doesn't matter if you agree with Zach or not. He's new to this
newsgroup and obviously doesn't understand how this newsgroup works yet
(his first post was three days ago where he admitted he is a new PHP
user). Rather, you should be listening to people like Rik and Rami, who
have been on here much longer.

Yes...PHP and MySql so closely used in the industry its almost
impossible to learn PHP without learning MySql.
Now, about the topic of posting his question in this group. Yes it was
not the best place to post it, but Rami could have simply answered his
question, and politely informed him that this is not the appropriate
newsgroup to post those kinds of questions. Instead he was as I said and
ass. Maybe you guys forgot what its like being new and not even knowing
what group to post questions. I'm new enough that I still remember times
when I wasn't sure whether or not to post in MySql or PHP when I had a
problem. Some of you need to relax its not like he asked how to perform
a mail merge with word, he wanted an easier way to access his database
than through php.

I'm not disagreeing about where it should have been posted. And I
probably overreacted to Rami's response...but the guy was asking a very
simple question, (and only 6-8 off topic questions have been asked in
the last 1000 posts) and is obviously new. I just think he should have
answered and then politely told him there are places where he could get
a better answer as the post is off topic. I've got a lot of help from
yourself and others here, I just hate it when someone doesn't give the
new guys a break. Anyways, this is getting off topic and has nothing to
do with PHP so I'll end my comments on this.

see questions answered here.
If they see people politely redirected to the correct group, they'll see
that, also.

MySQL question... it was a terminal and/or DOS window question, which
obviously doesn't belong here, but since it was clear the OP had no idea
the scope of his own question, which group he posted it in is pretty much

Read the charter. This group is for PHP questions. I'm not the
