Using php to frame old website

I have old all-html website that I would like to update with a
banner of information at the top of every page.

It is possible to use an iframe, or download the website and run
a stream editor to add the banner text to all files, before
uploading again.

But I wondered if there was a way to use a php script to add a
simple banner to all pages before displaying them. Has anyone
tried this before? I have hacked away at Drupal and Smarty in
the past, and know java and the unix shell, but am not an expert
in php. I would much appreciate someone with more experience
pointing me in the right direction.

Cheers,
Simon

No, but Apache has some ways of doing it. Try an Apache newsgroup.

I should clarify that - yes, there would be a way, but it would require
modifying your Apache configuration (using mod_rewrite) and other
things. Much easier to just allow Apache to do it for you.

Thanks for the pointer. Hopefully my host will allow me to do
this. We'll find out, I guess ;-).
