Special characters in MySQL

When I INSERT special characters into my MySQL database, they become distorted. For example, an accented e becomes "é".

The database is set to utf8/utf8_general_ci, and so is the table and column I'm entering the data to. As far as I know, it should work. The form I'm loading the data from is a page that has its content-type set to utf-8, so that's not an issue. What's wrong here?

Well, from your description, nothing. That probably means that there's something there that we're not hearing. Do they display correctly upon extraction from the database?

Can you show us your code?

Also, try setting the charset using the PHP header() functions in all the PHP files. I've seen errors when they are set in the <header> tag.
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. header("Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8");

That was the issue, I hadn't set my PHP files to UTF-8. Thanks so much.
