Have my script see if their is anything on the next page befor showing the "Next" ?

Ok, I want to make something that checks the other page and sees if their are anymore results on it. If not then do not show the "Next" link. How is this done? Also how do I have it so it will display every result then the results on the page? I have even keep seeing the same result on some pages is their a way to keep that from happening also?
