php file storage in server issue

Hi,

I am having 1 doubt.Suppose if i am uploading a video file of 40 MB.whether the upload video file in the server will be 40 MB.but i checked out , the size is different in local and server.

I planned to store the upload files in server as zip format.so that we can reduce the server storage .while displaying the video file.i will unzip and display.
But i don't know where zip and unzip a file will create any problem in the future. Whether can i proceed with the current idea.Is there any other solution for my issue.

i want to reduce storage capacity for the upload file in the server(this is what i want).

i am looking for some help from you guys

Zipping videos will not give you any size benefits, as the major video formats utilize their own compression.

Do some test runs and determine if the space saved is worth the time it takes to process the file.
