about buffer

Dear all,
i am a newcomer here. i am currently doing a project about a simplified
search engine. this methology is that we will save all the record in a text
file, then i will called a C program for searching by exec($command,
$output, $result). the $output will store all the output from the C program.
my problem is that i want to output every 5 record in a page, let's say if
output contain ten record and i want to output it in 2 different pages, i am
wondering how can i "save" the $output without calling again the program so
that i can display the output in the other page??
any suggestion is welcome.

Look up ob_start() (http://uk2.php.net/manual/en/function.ob-start.php),
that's probably what you want - whether it's the best solution for your
problem (text files?), I can't say.
