making php module built into apache ?

P: n/a
Hey all,

I would like to build php within apache itself so that it makes my
sysadmin life easy. Is there a way to acomplish that ? I would like to
do it for windows and for linux.

Thx

Hi,

to make your life easy I recommend to use a proper distribution (for
Linux) with a good security support and study the security announces and
adequate sites like <http://www.hardened-php.net/if you are looking
for security. If you still need small PHP installations with more
extension builtin than supported by default to get small modules without
the need to use shared libraries.
For all other reasons to build your own PHP see
<http://de.php.net/manual/en/install.phpand keep in mind that you have
to do everything for each platform you like to support.

Yes, you can do it. But you'll have to recompile Apache yourself,
telling it to include PHP. And any time you update either Apache or PHP
you'll have to recompile Apache. And you'll still need your php.ini
file, etc.

Unless you have a very good reason for needing them together, I would
think this would be harder than adding a single "LoadModule" statement
to your Apache config.

How does cramping everything into one monolithic binary block make your
sysadmin life easy? If there is just one security fix for one of the
components then you have to rebuild the whole thing. Modularity as it is
has been invented to make your sysadmin life easier. For servers, use
Debian Stable and be done.
