hi all
i need to have a page where a lady can upload high resolution images for people to download. and i was thinking that about 60 MB should be plenty large for everything she needs but i know that php has limitations and i was planing on storing these images into a mysql database but i might need to find a new way. so what do you think should i just change my php.ini file and upload images to my database or should i find a new solution.

Personally I don't like to store images in the database, just the file name. That way the image can just stay in the server directory and the db entry points to it.
But your upload process will still be the same.
I would go for the upload, leave it in an image directory and store the file name in the database.

Instead of showing a lot of code, I will point you to a complete sample for an image upload by bokeh at image upload sample

The uploaded image will be stored in the subdir uploaded_files of the directory in which the script runs. The upload dir is defined in statement

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. $uploadsDirectory = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . $directory_self . 'uploaded_files/';
Good luck!

I guess you are the first one who looked it up. Most people have never heard of it.

yea i actualy have a small problem with manuals but i have learned that in the long run it saves time. when i learn new software i used to just do what i needed and then every time i wanted to do somthing new i looked around and finaly found it. but when i acutaly read the manual i find that i can get projects done faster.

In my first programming class almost 40 years ago, they taught us a very important thing: "never try to store everything inside your head, it is sufficient to know in what manual you can find it.".

And with approx. 100 manuals to use, it is just impossible to store all information in your head.

Did the image upload sample work for you?

Mind if I jump in here? Thanks.

I read that post on uploading image files and I downloaded the zip files.

Can you include a small text area in the upload form to offer a brief description of the image?

And how would you associate this description with the image file so that when the image is recalled the description would accompany the image?

This could also come in handy if you were to create thumbnails of the larger images and upload them as well and link them to their larger siblings.
