Anyone out there have experience in sending SMS messages to a
database? I have a weather site running on PHP and want to offer a
weather alert service.

Particularly intereseted in bulk SMS providers to get the price down
for customers.

We do it with a Telecom CDMA modem, though I believe its not a good
solution. There's a company in Wellington which has a kin of Email to
SMS gateway. I forgot the name.

A lot of people seem to send over international providers, because of
the problem between the Telecom and Vodafone network. I guess you
should consult Google on that.

I know at least here in the states, companies such as voicestream (before
becoming tmobile), you could send text messages to cellphones by the phone
number using an email server

example: 20********@voicestream.com

voicestream, cingular, nextel, & vorizon i think do it here.

You will need to setup subscribers in the software or import their information
from an existing database, but this can easily be done with PageGate. A download
can be found at http://www.notepage.net/pagegate.htm

Good luck
