Need help - PHP search function... can I clear text onclick?

Please could someone help me. I am a relative newbie, and have the following function on my php search page on my Joomla! site.

<?php
}
}
function showSearchForm($dropListsArray,$config,$items,$pag eNav,$fieldData,$searchString,$catid,$total,$phras e,$res) {
global $mosConfig_live_site,$mosConfig_absolute_path,$my;
if(!$searchString)
$String = 'Search...';
else
$String = $searchString;
?>

to show a search field with the text Search... in it.
The page is working beautifully, but I would be truly grateful of someone could tell me whether I can do an onclick type function to clear the text, so the user does not have to hightlight and delete, and provide me some assistance as to how and where I would have to put the extra snippet of code to do it.

Thanks,
Midnightblue

You'd have to use a JavaScript onclick or onchange function that gets control before you do the search, after you picked up the search item.

Since you have not shown all code involved, it would be guessing. If you do show your code, do it within code or php tags.
