E-Mail Anhang kommt statt als doc-Datei als PDF-Dokument an

Hallo,

vor mehr als einem Jahr schrieb ich für einen Kunden ein
Mandanten-Mailprogramm in PHP, welches er über einen Admin-Bereich
online bedienen kann. In diesem Tool kann er seine Adressliste pflegen,
Anhänge hochladen und E-Mails formulieren. Die monatlichen
Mandantenmails werden serienbriefartig mit einem doc-Anhang verschickt.

Seit ca. zwei Monaten tritt nun das Problem auf, dass einige, nicht
alle, Mandanten statt doc-Dateien PDF-Dateien im Anhang finden. Diese
lassen sich erst nach Rückbenennung der Dateierweiterung in doc normal
öffnen. Da das keine saubere Lösung ist, suche ich nun fieberhaft
nach der Ursache.

Ist jemandem dieses Problem bekannt? Ich freue mich über jeden Hinweis.

Mehr Details währen nützlich!

Wie wird die Mail verschickt? Wie der Anhang erzeugt, angehängt? Wie
sieht der Code aus? Welche MIME-Types? Was haben die Empfänger
gemeinsam, die den Anhang richtig bekommen, was die anderen?
