positioning output from MySQL

Currently the output from the MySQL db is directed to a table.

I want to create an image or imagemap and overlay either a text string or an image depending on the output. There are only going to be two options.

Am either looking for help (a code snippet) or a tutorial on how to complete the project.

Thanks in advance.
