Portfolio ?

Ike
This may be a dumb question, but, on a job interview, people ask for you to
bring a "Portfolio." Aside from your typical URL's to projects you may have
done -- what can/should one bring for that? I'd be most interested to hear
your thoughts please. -Ike

Depends on what the position you are interviewing for is... Is it a
strict programming job? is there design involved? will you be doing
interactive projects? Choose materials to add to the "portfolio"
accordingly. If you know someone local that is in a similar position or
company, ask them if they'd have time to provide feedback on what you've
put together.

Never assume that there will be a net connection (or even a computer)
available during the interview. Print out screen shots of some of the
projects (the parts that are relevant to the position) on a good quality
color laser printer. Don't just staple them together, bind them nicely
either with those plastic report covers, or have a local print shop do a
plastic comb binding on it for you. Don't use a 3-ring binder, you want
to look professional, not cheap or haphazard.

Do you know Flash, Director or similar software? If yes, put together an
interactive presentation to leave behind on CD (be sure that it has at
least Mac and PC versions).

If you have a laptop, take some time to set up a web server on it and
load up some of your projects that you'd like to showcase in case they
don't have a computer/connection there. Be sure that your battery is
fully charged as it is possible that the interview location doesn't have
power. (I know a couple people who have had interviews in a city park.)
