Going rate in the states

Ike
Can anyone give me a rough clue on what the going rate is in the states for,
say, a fairly well-experienced php programmer operating from home, covering
his own expenses, in the states is? Thanks, Ike

Depends on the experience and expertise of course, but the average that
I've seen in the mid-west range from $80-$100/hr for experienced general
PHP programmers. There are many exceptions, some charge less, some
charge more, depending on their abilities, specialties, etc.

However, most contractors that I've dealt with rather like to charge on
a per-job basis with quotes and such.

Depends on a lot of things - like where you are, who you're working for,
what you're doing and how experienced you are.

PHP programmers here in Washington, DC go for a lot more than those in
Des Moines, Ia (where I grew up), for instance.

I would guess the range for an experienced programmer might be anywhere
from $40K to $100K (or more) per year.

I've seen mostly in the 30-45/hr region.
But they're right it depends on the location and the company you're
working with.

I've had a client buy into the idea of matching rates quoted by skilled
technicians in that industry/field in that geographic area. Ex, marine
diesel mechanic in Baltimore. Which came out to $75 hourly for a shortish
job.
