PHP testing server on windows?

I recently got a php job. Until now I've only developed with asp. How
do I develop locally with php? Is there a server that works on windows
for local php development?

Thanks!!
John

Apache works fine on Windows. You could consider using a fully prepared
package which would include all the necessary server bits like XAMPP.

Are there are any known issues with xampp? I tried it and it seemed to
work fine but since I've had some serious system errors, such as, the
system restarting itself. I'm running XP2 on a 2ghz machine with
512mem. I had to uninstall it to see if it would stablize. It's
uninstalled now but when visiting download.com the browser (IE6)
crashes. Any ideas on this?? Never had this problem before. thanks!

I've had XAMPP running on machines with even less memory and never had
any problems.
Try and do a search on their forum and see if that turns up anything.

Well, XAMPP is one of those fine piece of works you can count on. You
might try other packages like phpdev, AppServ, FoxServ, NuSphere, PHP
Triad etc. etc. to name a few for php+mysql+apache preconfigured for
windows!

The best part of XAMPP, you don't need any installer, so it won't mess
up with your registry ... just unpack that package in a root drive like
d:\xampp run the setup.bat file and you are on the run!
