Help with Smarty

I've a smarty var, like this:
{$var}
that is equal to: ttttttttttttt|zzzzzzzzzzzz

It can be any size, the important is that they are separated by the '|'

How do I 'explode' that into an array or 2 variables in the smarty template
?

So I can just use:
{$var[0]} = ttttttttttttt;
{$var[0]} = zzzzzzzzzzzz;

Try explode( ) like this:
$pizza = "piece1 piece2 piece3 piece4 piece5 piece6";
$pieces = explode(" ", $pizza);
echo $pieces[0]; // piece1
echo $pieces[1]; // piece2
