I didn't know about this. Since I've not seen the source code, it makes me
wonder what other hidden stuff is in there. This doesn't build my
confidence in php.

Is this last one supposed to be the same as your what_ever_page.php example
above?

Did you replace what_ever_page.php with, say, index.php or some other known
file on your site?

the last one is a funny pic of someone (i heard it was the author, i dont
know, and if he reads this dont feel offened I dont know what you look like,
due to the fact you dont know what I look like either)

or you may have meant the what_ever_page_ part, yea, replace this with a
page from your site

Actually, I tried in on my site below and found it to be a picture of a dog.
My web host uses PHP 4.3.4, I think.

Yep.

Running:
Apache 2.0.45 (win32)
PHP 4.3.1

My site uses index.php as well as many other .php pages and adding the
?=codes does absolutley nothing. Pages act as normal.

I went to php.net and used one of theirs. It worked fine. BTW, I
hadn't seen the snow-capped PHP logo until today. I guess Google
is rubbing off on them.

Worked from one of those links. Must be one of my php.ini settings.

I can't see why it should affect your confidence in PHP.

Are you suggesting these exposed innards mean that there may be other
exposed bits which represent a security issue?

I'm just not a fan of Easter eggs. They've always given me a sense of
insecurity. ;-) Where's my blanket?

I did do some searching and found the snippet of the php code where these
are set.
