adding date into mysql with php

Hi

I am building my first php/mysql application
having come from the dark side. I am finding it a
lot easier then I thought.

One thing I am stuck on is adding a a date fieled
through sql

I have a verfied short date (dd/mm/yy) but
can't seem to insert it into the table.

I would be grateful for the correct format
