Installing PHP 5.05 on WIndows XP, Apache 2.0.54 - please help

P: n/a
Hi Im trying to install PHP 5.05 on Windows XP running Apache 2.0.54

Apache is running fine and ive made all the changes to the pnp.ini file
and Apache config file, restarted Apache but all I get when trying to
call my test.php file is a 404 error?

http.config file:
LoadModule php5_module "C:/php/php5apache2.dll"
PHPIniDir "C:/php"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps

set my php.ini doc-root file to :
doc_root = "C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs"

Ive followed all the FAQs on php.net , added c:/php to the Path etc

any ideas?

thanks

If your getting a 404 error it means it's not there on the server, not that
PHP isn't working!

Thats what I thought, so I created a helloworld.html file and put it in
the same folder as my test.php file (which contains <? phpinfo() ?> ).
My helloworld.html file works fine but the php file gets the file not
found eror message?

localhost/helloworld.html
localhost/test.php

location : Apache/htdocs/

This may be entirely patronising but wheneverI setup Apache/PHP I create
a php file using notepad to test and almost always manage to call it
index.php.txt by accident ......... :D

More or less looks proper, yet,
A few things you may want to confirm/try out:
see if there is a php.ini in c:\windows, if there is remove it
dont forget to add c:\php to your system path, in winXP it is found by
right clicking on my computer, advanced tab, environment variables,in
the lower list (for the system)

also,
(there is no reason this should happen wrong, but .....) check if the
line
engine = On
is present in php.ini - it should be there.

This may sound silly, but one last thing that I can think of is making
a directory named php in C:\Pro.....\\\Apache2\htdocs and saying that
your doc_root is C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\php

Also, check to see DocumentRoot in the httpd.conf file is set to the
htdocs folder.

Apart from these I cannot think of anything as yet. When you do get the
solution, kindly post it, as it seems to be interesting.

Please quote what your replying to.

The problem with that is that it doesn't prove anything of value, you can
open HTML files from any location and get the correct output, with php
files they need to go through the server to be parsed in order for the
output to be converted.

Do you have short tags enabled in your php.ini around about line 80,
because unless you have your script won't work, it should read <?php
phpinfo()?>

You can install on your computar the xampp distribution
(http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html) and then you have already
an apache server on your windows. Then you must only run the apache
server with a bat file. xampp is so easy!!!

Then, if you want type code with some help you can download eclipse
(http://www.eclipse.org/) and an extensión for developping php script
called phpeclipse (http://phpeclipse.sourceforge.net/).

There is another open software called devphp
(http://devphp.sourceforge.net/) und that´s all OPEN SOURCE!!!

Good luck!!

I second third fourth that! PHPEclipse is excellent. I am learning php
as well and I just got xampp and PHPEclipse about 19 hours back - i am
up and running since 16 hours!!

If you meticulously follow the instructions at
http://www.plog4u.org/index.php/Using_PHPEclipse,
life will be very easy very quickly - Just give proper attention to
installing the debugger and setting up PHPEclipse for debugging:
