PHP and databases

I am completely new to PHP and have a couple questions.

Can PHP access Microsoft Access databases?

Are there any basic scripts, any good sites out there? I just want to
extract simple data from a table and display it on a webpage...as basic as
can be to start.

Thanks, Craig

Yes, but you have to define your Access database as an ODBC source.
Then you can use PHP's ODBC functions to work with Access databases:

Not to flame you craig but why to so many new people not even use
google or do a book search first? When I learned all this stuff I did
a lot of research on my own and only posted questions on items I just
couldn't find the answer to. Stop being lazy newbies! What would you
do if this forum wasn't here?

I think google can answer your question:

google search: php Microsoft Access

hey what do you know, here is what the first item is based on that
search:

PHP: Microsoft Access Database ODBC and PHP Tutorial - PHP Freaks
Microsoft Access Database ODBC and PHP Tutorial. php tutorials php ...
Microsoft
Access Database ODBC and PHP. Author: phpfreak Tutorial ...
www.phpfreaks.com/tutorials/61/0.php - 37k - Cached - Similar pages

That took about 2 seconds!

I also highly, highly recommend ADODB.

http://php.weblogs.com/adodb

example code to connecting to the access database is simple as

$db = NewADOConnection('access');
$db->Connect($_host, $_user, $_pass, $_db);

the rest of adodb wrapper functions are very easy and the manual is concise.

furthermore if you ever plan on porting your application you needn't
ever have to worry about what database the client intends on using since
adodb supports a wide range of them.

hope this is helpful :)
