PHP & SAML

I inherited an existing application that needs some serious
enhancement, though I am not fluent in the language it was developed in
(PERL). I was hoping to migrate everything over to PHP, since I know
it a lot better and the app isn't too large. The only "unknown" that
is holding me back from jumping into a transition to PHP is that SAML
authentication is being used.

I have been looking around online for a few days now trying to find out
if there is the possibility of using SAML with PHP with little luck.
Theoretically there shouldn't be any issues, since it is just XML data
passing back and forth between the two servers, but I haven't been able
to find anything specific to PHP. Is there anyone that could point me
in the right direction for some documentation, or let me know if this
is even possible?

Thanks,
Mike Ash
