request for assistance with validation

Good afternoon,

I am trying to validate a string that would check the first two
characters for the presence of GA, then do something. How would this
be written?

Sincerely,

Jim

Something like this:

$str = "GAGA";
if (substr($str,0,2) == "GA") {
// do something
}
